Children & Dental Care

Big Smiles Brighten Our Lives

There is no denying that smiling children light up the room. We’d like to keep it that way and you can help. Building your child’s dental IQ will help them as they begin to take pride in caring for their own healthy smile. Pediatric dental care works best when visiting the dentist regularly, The strange sights, sounds, and smells of the dental office quickly become normal after a few visits, and they’ll feel right at home. They'll be  proud to show their white, healthy teeth

Pediatric Dental Care

Start early. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends children see the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts. These early visits for young children are fast and easy, plus your child becomes more aware and calmer at the dentist. As they grow older, their successes will be a source of pride and if future pediatric dental care is needed, they'll already be familiar and more at ease with the dentist.

Early exams, and often. Children can come as early as at one year old for an exam. These early dental exams for 1-2 year olds are fast and easy. Children should come two or three times a year so that by the time they are six years old, we can easily clean their teeth, make x-rays, place sealants, or repair decay.

Fluoride? Prague's drinking water has no fluoride and bottled water usually has no fluoride. Without fluoride, these water sources put your children at a higher risk for tooth decay. We recommend children use toothpaste with fluoride twice a day. Systemic fluoride tablets are also available but, studies have shown that topical fluoride is the most helpful. If your child is at risk for decay because they already have fillings or brown spots on their teeth, they should have regular office fluoride treatment. We recommend all children to have fluoride varnish painted on the surface of their teeth twice a year.

Bad experiences? Children and adults will remember bad experiences their whole life. If a child  comes to us with a history of bad experiences, we expect these children will need extra visits before they will trust us. We'll do our best to give your child a positive experience and eventually, the good experiences will replace the bad ones. Bring children regularly to the dentist before serious dental problems take root.

Kind and safe treatment. We do our best to provide safe and comfortable treatment for your children. We use low dose digital x-rays, white fillings, preventative sealants, topical fluoride, and micro fillings to help your children’s teeth. During treatment, we will always be checking if your child is comfortable because we know that good experiences build trust.

Home Dental Care Tips

  1. Parents should assist with brushing and flossing until 5-6 years of age.
  2. Brush teeth 2-3 times a day for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste.
  3. Avoid sugar exposure to prevent decay (candy, lollipops, soda, etc).
  4. Avoid dried fruit that can stick between teeth (raisins, prunes, etc).
  5. Avoid sweet juices, syrups, honey, or sweetened milk or tea.
  6. Avoid milk or juice before bed.
  7. Toddlers falling asleep with a bottle means higher risk for "baby bottle tooth decay".
